Academic Excellence

Fostering and maintaining Academic Excellence is without any doubt the main concern for any educational institution. Indeed, reputation and accreditation depend on the implementation and realization of some basic principles:

1. Excellence of Programs
2. Faculty Excellence
3. Student Excellence

Naturally, the Syrian Virtual University is keen on the establishment of standards for each of these principles and on Quality Assurance accordingly.

Excellence of Programs

SVU International Programs are all selected from the best universities worldwide. Partners are rigorously chosen according to strict criteria:

1. Accreditation: All partners and programs should be fully endorsed by their
national Accrediting Bodies.

2. Quality Assurance: All partners should have Academic Q.A. laws in order to
ensure a continuous monitoring and assessment of the
offered programs.

3. Market Needs:        Excellence of Programs does not only mean academic
                                   quality: excellence is far from being achieved when students
                                   graduate from the best university but their professional
                                   future market is saturated. That is why all the programs
                                   selected by the SVU are of relevance to the regional market
                                   needs.

4. Non-discrimination: SVU students should benefit from the same advantages and
rights as any other student enrolled at the same partner-
university.

As for SVU-designed Programs, they are all created in collaboration with well-known institutions worldwide. The Arabic Higher National Diploma in e-Business (HND) for instance is produced in collaboration with the finest Arab professors (from renowned and accredited Arab universities) and the British institution EDEXCEL which the official body to award HNDs worldwide.

The SVU is keen to ensure its students are offered premium academic services and all SVU students benefit from the same privileges granted to their peers in the four other Syrian public universities.

Faculty Excellence

The International Programs are all taught by professors carefully selected by the SVU partners, who regularly perform strict assessments of their teaching methods and results.

The Syrian Virtual University appoints its professors based on the same international standards and regular workshops and trainings are organized in order to systematically update and better their online teaching techniques.

The Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the direct authority regarding Quality Assurance, works in close collaboration with faculty and department heads in order to assure Academic Excellence is maintained.

Student Excellence

Students are the concrete reputation of an academic institution: it is based on their achievements and success that a university builds up its credibility.

Hence the Syrian Virtual University is keen on producing high-caliber graduates who would be outstanding in professional environments.

Admissions Requirements are set equally for all applicants in order to regulate acceptances or rejections. These requirements may vary from one partner to the other as far as International Programs are concerned, but common basic pre-requisites establish a minimum framework for all SVU programs.

Once enrolled at the SVU, students should abide by the ethical Student Honor Code and the official Policies and Procedures instituted by the university. Intellectual honesty and integrity are a must and unethical behavior will not be tolerated: proper sanctions will be implemented without exception.

If offenses which are not mentioned in any of the official document stated above are to happen, the SVU reserves the right to implement the appropriate measures based on case-by-case state of affairs, and immediately infer a new policy accordingly.

Accreditation

Legitimately, students’ main concern is to be able to find a satisfying and challenging post-graduate employment. It goes without saying that competition is becoming more and more ferocious and only the best will stay in the game.

The very first worry is Accreditation. If a university or a program is not officially recognized by relevant authorities, it is not worth any attention. That is why all the degrees (international and domestic) offered by the SVU are fully accredited and endorsed by the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education, and/or applicable official International Accrediting Bodies.

Accreditation is no longer an apprehension. It is not a promise. It is a reality.
