The Syrian Virtual University presented a Seminar on the 22nd of October 2002 as part of the HITECH program of conferences proposed in parallel with the exhibition.

Dr. Milad Sebaaly, SVU Provost, held the SVU: Your Path to Effective Lifelong Learning presentation during which he explained the birth of Virtual Education and its development. He also stated the challenges of this new educational concept as well as the social and economical needs of modern societies to implement it. The Syrian Virtual University is essential to the realization of the Strategy for Development of the traditional industrial economy towards what is known as the Knowledge Economy. This strategy itself is indispensable to the Strategy of Development and Modernization.

Programs proper to SVU are proposed by the university in order to answer the needs of some of the strategic requirements of today such as Human Resources Development (HRD) of the current or future market workforces by providing modern and suitable specializations and scientific and professional careers which anyone can study while keeping a full-time employment. SVU does not only grant skills upgrading but also knowledge development.

While scanning through the current condition of the Syrian and Arab States, Dr. Sebaaly concluded that SVU is perfect to generate the transfer new scientific and advanced horizons. He highlighted the fact that the Syrian Virtual University is able to develop the methodological processes which grant a local shape to the scientific specializations and reduce the well-known gap between modern science of the Developed World and the local milieu of the Developing Countries.
