The Syrian Virtual University launched its Awareness Campaign in
Lebanon through Academia 2003, the exhibition on Education and
Training which was held between the 30th of January and the 1st of
February 2003.
Dr. Milad Sebaaly, SVU Provost, conducted a one-hour Seminar on the
Cultural and Social Issues involved in International Virtual
Education, using the SVU as a Case Study.
Experts and professionals attended the Seminar which engendered a
controversial discussion by the end of the presentation, considering
that Virtual Education is very new to the Lebanese audiences as well.
The SVU Booth at the Exhibition Hall attracted a large number of high
school and university students who had the opportunity to visit the
SVU Website on location, using the available computers in the stand.
Many professionals also stopped at the booth to request details about
the SVU for their personal skills upgrading or with the desire to
establish some kind of partnership with the university.
The Syrian Virtual University is not totally new to the Lebanese. In
September 2002, after the official opening, a large campaign was
initiated in the Lebanese media. Most of the Lebanese TV stations (LBCI,
Future TV, NBN, Al Manar) invited Dr. Milad Sebaaly to present this
new Arab university and the concepts of Virtual Education, in relation
to the current Arab realities.
