Program objective:

The program aims to achieve the following:

Supporting national development through the training of specialized natural resource management staff in terms of preserving and rehabilitating natural resource systems by developing the concepts related to interrelationships between terrestrial, water, coastal, economic, social, cultural and legal systems, and their integration with the factors that help in maintaining natural resources and their good management.

Developing the research environment and teaching methods in different areas of science supporting the principle of integrated resource management

Capacity building in terms of specifying natural resources and their environmental, economic and social importance, in addition to defining the foundations for sustainable investment.

Capacity building in terms of setting priorities in the management to be applied to all available resources at the local, regional and national levels.

Developing skills related to the use of information and data resulting from scientific research as well as monitoring and control programs, and employing the output to develop visions, policies, strategies and plans for the optimal management of natural resources in order to achieve the development of the life of the population and raise their level of well-being at the local, regional and national levels.

Capacity building in terms of setting strategic goals and short, medium and long-term planning for the optimal investment of natural resources at the local, regional and national levels.

Providing an environment for interaction and a networking platform among the sectors of academy, production, service and community to meet the requirements of regional and global competition.

Enhancing the role and securing the needs of the knowledge society.

Enhancing the role of society in maintaining natural resources and participating in the optimal management of these resources in line with their integrated management.

Achieving the highest level of interaction between the university and the society, with its economic and social institutions, in order to link the university with society.

Keeping up-to-date with the scientific development related to natural resource management in a manner that achieves sustainable development.

On the knowledge level:

The student is expected to have the following intellectual capabilities:

To learn about the process of integrating modern scientific and administrative technologies within a unified framework with the aim of securing the investment of natural resources in the regions and at the national level.
To master the integration process.
To be able to collect scientific information and determine its reliability for decision-making.
To be able to discuss and defend the decisions taken to protect and preserve the natural resources in the regions based on scientific information.
To continue searching for developments in environmental sciences.

On the emotional level:

Seeking to integrate modern scientific and administrative technologies into the service and well-being of the population.
The ability to participate in protecting the natural human heritage nationally, regionally and globally.

On the performance level:

The student is expected to have a range of abilities, including:

The ability to effectively participate in the appropriate decision-making process to ensure sustainable investment of natural resources at various levels.
The ability to implement participatory and collaborative decision-making process.
Working constantly to develop themselves and improve their performance.

Registration

In order for the candidate to be admitted to the master’s program, the following is required:

A- He/she must have a university degree rated at least as ‘good’ in one of the following specializations:

Science: whether natural, chemical, marine, geological, environmental and natural resources.
Civil, environmental, water, sanitary, petrochemical, agricultural and all other types of engineering.
Business and economics administration.
Geography

Or he/she must have an equivalent for the above mentioned degrees from one of the universities, higher institutes or research centers in the Syrian Arab Republic, or any other university, higher institute, studies center or research center, provided that the candidate holds a degree that the Council of Scientific Affairs considers an equivalent meeting the requirements.

B- The Council of Academic Affairs is concerned with the equivalence of the non-Syrian academic degree fit for admission to this program only, and this equivalence is not valid for other programs inside or outside the university, and this council may request the amendment of the academic degree from the competent authorities in the ministry, and the student must submit all necessary documents and information needed for the equivalence.

C- He/ She must pass the English language test conducted by the university, or its equivalent of the international standardized tests, such as the TOEFL, or IELTS exams, or any international test accepted by the Council of Scientific Affairs, the conditions of which shall be determined by the Council of Scientific Affairs, provided that it has NOT been more than two years since the student obtained the standardized test document.

D- He/ She must take the program admission test related to the level of skills and primary knowledge in terms of natural resource management issues.

Basics for differentiation:

The differentiation between candidates who fulfill the requirements mentioned in the previous article of this system shall be based on the acceptance rate.
The acceptance rate is calculated by taking the weighted average of the following components:

The graduation average of the academic degree on which the candidate’s acceptance is based, and it is weighted by 50% of the acceptance rate.
The program admission test referred to in item (D), and it is weighted by 50% of the acceptance rate.

Registration for the credit units of the program:

All courses are mandatory for obtaining a qualification and specialization master's degree in integrated management of natural resources.

The minimum number of units that the student is entitled to register for in one semester is 15 units.

The maximum number of units that a student is entitled to register for in one semester is 38 units.

In order to register for the Master's project, the student must have previously studied at least 90 credit units, and passed at least 74 units.

Graduation and success requirements

Success in the course

The final mark of the course consists of two parts: the written exam one of not less than 70%, and the activity one of not more than 30% of the final mark of the course, and these percentages are determined by a decision of the Council of Academic Affairs, according to the nature of each course and based on the suggestion of the course instructor and the councils of both the department and the college.
The student is considered to have passed the course if his/her final mark is not less than 60%, provided that the mark of either part is not less than 40% (examination and activity mark) of the maximum mark for each of them.

Passing to the following year

The student is considered to have passed to the second year if he/she passes the courses of two semesters in accordance with the conditions of the minimum registration for the approved credit units in the program.

Master's project

The student shall prepare a project on a subject approved by the Council of Scientific Affairs, and submit a report on the result of working on this project. The report shall be discussed before a jury formed by the Council of Scientific Affairs for this purpose.
The project is conducted under the supervision of a member of the teaching staff, an equivalent, or a specialist who is approved by the Council of Scientific Affairs and who holds a PhD.
A jury consisting of at least three specialists holding a PhD shall be formed, one of whom is the supervisor.
The jury evaluates the project in accordance with the rules set by the Council of Academic Affairs, and the student is considered to have passed in the project if he/she obtains a mark of no less than 60 out of 100.
The jury may give a period of no more than a month starting from the date of discussion (viva voca) for amendments (if necessary), and in this case the discussion will not be re-held.
The student is deemed to have failed the project in the event that he/she has not obtained a score of at least 60, or in the event that the committee has not agreed to the amendments requested from him/her within less than a month after the discussion.

The following is required of the student to obtain a master's degree:

To pass all required mandatory courses.
To pass in the master’s project.
To pay the fees and financial installments due according to the financial system.
